Participants will be asked to identify trade and environment issues of interest to the region. Each group should organise the identified issues into a prioritised list with the aim of identifying 3-4 key priorities. Participants should focus on challenges AND opportunities for the region, using specific examples from their countries or from the region. They should also explain WHY they selected these as priorities.

Questions to be addressed by the working groups could include:

  • What are the specific challenges AND opportunities for the region regarding the trade and environment priority area(s)?
  • How could the challenges be addressed and the opportunities exploited? Where should this be done (eg WTO, other multilateral processes, regional, national, private sector)?
  • What innovative / imaginative options can be proposed to move the current debate forward and advance Southern trade and environment issues on the WTO's future agenda?
  • What are the needs for further research and follow-up work on the identified priorities?
