A Southern
Agenda on Trade and Environment (with IISD
and the RING) |

The Trade
Knowledge Network (TKN) is part of a project aimed at building
long-term capacity to address the issues of trade and sustainable
development in developing country research institutions, NGOs
and governments through increased awareness, knowledge and understanding
of the issues. The TKN will link network members and consolidate
new and existing research on trade and sustainable development. |

GETI is the Working
Group on Environment, Trade and Investment of IUCN's
Commission
on Environmental, Economic and Social Policy (CEESP). The
group seeks to help in defining the role of IUCN - the World
Conservation Union (see below) in trade and environment, focusing
on providing practical information services to the IUCN membership
on the interface between international trade rules and biodiversity.
ICTSD is currently hosting the GETI Secretariat and supports
it in its activities and efforts.
CEESP, the IUCN
Commission
on Environmental, Economic and Social Policy, is an inter-disciplinary
network of professionals whose mission is to act as a source
of advice on the environmental, economic, social and cultural
factors that affect natural resources and biological diversity
and to provide guidance and support towards effective policies
and practices in environmental conservation and sustainable
development. ICTSD has mainly been collaborating with CEESP
through the Working
Group on Environment, Trade and Investment (GETI).

El Grupo
Zapallar (GZ) es un grupo de trabajo regional, informal y
multisectorial que involucra directamente a más de 45 personas
de nueve países sudamericanos preocupados por los aspectos
ambientales de la política comercial en la región.
El propósito del GZ es aprender, reflexionar, debatir y
generar una agenda proactiva sudamericana sobre comercio y ambiente
en el contexto de los procesos de integración comercial.

ICTSD collaborates with the International
Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) in a number of
areas, including most recently a series of briefings
on the Doha Round negotiations and on the 'Southern
Agenda on Trade and Environment' project. |

ICTSD is collaborating with IUCN
- the World Conservation Union on various themes and areas,
including the bi-weekly newsletter BRIDGES
Trade BioRes. ICTSD and IUCN jointly organised several workshops
and side events for the World Summit on Sustainable Development
(WSSD), and ICTSD is assisting IUCN's International Policy, Biodiversity
and International Agreements Unit in defining a strategic trade
and biodiversity programme. ICTSD also collaborated with IUCN
in preparing and running a Global
Biodiversity Forum in the leadup to the WTO's Cancun Ministerial
in September 2003. |

As part of its activities under the
Southern
Agenda on Trade and Environment project, ICTSD has partnered
with the Regional
and International Networking Group (RING) of organisations
working for sustainable development, in order to help reflect
a regional perspective on trade, environment and sustainable development
in trade negotiations. |

Concerted Action on Trade and Environment (CAT &
E). This new project sets up a consortium of European institutions
that aim to work together to provide cutting-edge research on
issues at the intersection of trade and environment. The concerted
action will be structured around a series of substantive questions
and will also respond to the dynamics of this evolving research
agenda and generate new impulses for research. |
